After 14 months of construction, the community’s patience is about to be rewarded. The City of Fairfield invites everyone to join in celebrating the re-opening of a greatly improved Peabody Road.
The improvements to Peabody Road primarily include a six-lane overcrossing over the railroad tracks at Vanden Road. The overcrossing is suited to vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic eliminating conflicts with train traffic.
The grand opening celebration is Thursday, August 4 at 6 p.m. near the corner of Peabody and Vanden roads. Be one of the first people to walk across the new overcrossing, hear about the next phases of the Fairfield-Vacaville Train Station project, and kids can enjoy fun and games with Fairfield’s Fun on the Run program.
“Our community has been amazingly patient during this construction project,” said Public Works Director George Hicks. “Our construction team deserves special recognition for completing this work under budget and ahead of schedule. We greatly appreciate the patience of the community and partnership of the Travis Unified School District, Travis Air Force Base, and the area businesses in completing this work. While construction was impactful, the widened roadway and elimination of the at-grade rail crossing will pay permanent dividends in improving traffic flow and safety for those that travel Peabody Road.”
