After 22 years of service with the City of Fairfield, Community Development Director Karl Dumas will retire on Thursday, July 27th, 2017.
Karl graduated from San Jose State University. In 1995, Karl began his career with the City of Fairfield when he joined the City’s Economic Development/Redevelopment division as a Contractor, and then six months later becoming a permanent Project Manager. From 2011-2015 Karl served as the City’s Economic Development Division Manager, where he was responsible for developing and implementing major commercial and industrial economic development and real estate projects and programs. In May of 2015, Karl was appointed Community Development Director, where he oversaw City planning, building permitting, housing programs, as well as economic development.
Karl has been passionately involved in community development revitalization activities for over 27 years. He has also initiated and implemented successful economic development and redevelopment programs for the San Jose Redevelopment Agency, Suisun City Redevelopment Agency, and the City of Alameda.
Mayor Harry Price said, “Karl’s understanding of developing a quality community by attracting and retaining businesses, planning, permitting, and approving smart housing projects, and ensuring a sustainable and desirable community mix is second to none. We are going to truly miss him.”
With a promise to his wife, Karl will take several months to enjoy the retirement life before he embarks on his next adventure. During retirement, Karl looks forward to more gardening and bike riding, following the Golden State Warriors on their West Coast road trip, and possibly visiting every basketball stadium in the US. Karl and his wife are planning a few vacations to celebrate the occasion, and they also plan to continue living in the area.
“I would like to express my appreciation to the City of Fairfield and the community I love. I am moving on with fond memories and sincere gratitude,” Dumas stated, “Thank you for the opportunity to work together to help make a difference. I Love Where I Live!”
Best wishes on your well-deserved retirement, Karl. The City of Fairfield thanks you for your dedication and commitment for the past 22 years.
