CalRecycle’s Manufacturers’ Challenge workshop is re-scheduled to January 5, 2016 to allow time for industry to review updated disposal data from CalRecycle’s 2014 Waste Characterization Study which is expected to be released in the next two months.
Following the November 2014 policy discussion, and in response to industry’s call for CalRecycle to focus on voluntary industry action to increase packaging recovery in California, CalRecycle’s Manufacturers’ Challenge set a voluntary goal of 50% reduction in packaging landfilled in California by 2020. Product industry associations and trade groups are asked to share industry-wide actions they consider necessary to achieve this goal and what specific activities their members will undertake.
